La Tempesta >

An oil painting inspired by a visit to Mont Saint-Michel.

Selected Works

Elemental

This is a mammoth (5' x 8') oil painting, completed working up a ladder - despite my fear of heights! It was displayed in the vast gallery space of 107 Station Street, where my exhibition 'Tempesta' was held.

Sunburst

Prints are available of this oil painting.

The Unloved Child

One of the things I love about this painting is how people see different things in it. It measures 16" x 16" and was made primarily with acrylic paint.

Elephant

Prints are available of this oil painting.

Heart of Timanfaya

A 90cm x 90cm oil painting inspired by the volcanic landscape of Lanzarote.

Marilyn

Prints are available of this watercolour painting

< Storm over Cafe del Mar

An oil painting inspired by a visit to Ibiza (140cm x 80cm)

My Story

Over the years I have developed a personal, idiosyncratic style of painting, often using a combination of oils, plaster and glue. I like to create a texturised, impasto effect, and paint with a palette knife. Scratches and paint drips are a regular feature of my pictures. The fractured style this creates suits my pictures (and my psyche!)
Throughout my life, I have always had an artistic leaning. Sometimes it veers more towards writing, sometimes painting pictures, sometimes making films. I specialised in both film and fine art during my Foundation course, which is pretty unusual from what I gather, but thankfully I had tutors who encouraged me to pursue both. I loved them equally, and it must have shown because I managed to get a distinction.
After college I studied film at university where I was lucky enough to visit and contribute to events such as the Osnabruck Independent Film Festival and the Edinburgh International Film Festival. I made dozens of shorts whilst at uni, mostly shot on 16mm film. It was a very hands-on process, with editing done the old-fashioned way by manually cutting and splicing. I miss it to be honest. Digital filmmaking just isn't the same.
